Our next scheduled stop on our way south was in Indiana. Tim chose Charlestown State Park because it did offer a nice bath house and a water hook up for Gladys. I had taken advantage of my daughter’s well stocked and comfortably heated bathroom to clean up before we left Columbus, but Tim was in need of a shower since it was too cold to make him sleep outside. When we arrived at the park there was no one at the entrance or at the office or at the gate into the camping area. We were able to locate our site that had been carefully chosen next to the bath house. Since there were only two other campers in the entire park, privacy was not an issue.
What was an issue was that bathhouse was locked and there was no running water anywhere in the park. Adding to the problem was the fact that our vacuflush toilet was not vacuflushing and without any water we could not clear the bowl at all. We were shit out of luck. A previous toilet issue had taught me that there are bags for such situations so I headed to WalMart for a box of poop bags and a package of body wipes.
Mr. T got on his computer and phone trying to locate a repair person for the toilet. Finally a call to the manufacturer resulted in the name of man in Hixon, Tennessee who might be able to help us. Tim gave his a call and he said he would be glad to take a look at it even though he specializes in boats and had never worked on an RV before. Good enough. We packed up and headed to Tennessee.
I am pretty sure that given the odors trailing behind Gladys as we headed down the Natchez Trace Parkway, Indiana was not sad to see us go.
